Healthy Eating Pyramid

The Healthy Eating Pyramid, developed by Nutrition Australia was first introduced in 1980.1 It is an iconic and simple food selection guide that aims to visually represent the types and proportions of foods to eat every day. The Healthy Eating Pyramid was last updated in 2015 and is based on the recommendations outlined in the Australian Dietary Guidelines to encourage consumption of a varied, balanced diet. Supplementary guidelines featured in the pyramid include the addition of herbs and spices to meals for added flavour and consumption of healthy fats.

The concept of the Healthy Eating Pyramid is similar to that of the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, but is not designed to replace this guide.
