Evidence statements for the five food groups

The following evidence statements are sourced from the 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines and are based on a review of over 55,000 scientific publications that outline  consuming foods from the five food groups can support optimal health and prevent disease.

Evidence statement 
The evidence suggests that a high quality diet is associated with a reduced risk of chronic disease and improved health outcomes.
The evidence suggests that consumption of a dietary intake pattern aligned with national dietary guidelines or recommendations is associated with reduced mortality and morbidity.
